SIA "Latgran" was founded on 31 March 2004 in Jaunjelgava and it is one of the leading producers of pellets in Europe. One of the founders of the company is SIA “Latsin”, currently the owners of SIA “Latgran” are “Kinnevik New Ventures” AB (Sweden) and “Baltic Resources” AB (Finland).

SIA “Latgran” deals with producing and selling industrial biomass pellets mainly for export. Our pellets are used for generating electricity in large power plants and for producing heat and electricity in cogeneration plants in Sweden and Denmark. The company is actively working to expand the market segment.

Our products are pellets made of sawdust or other logging by-products originating during the production process, by compacting the raw materials with great pressure. No glue or other binding agents are used in production. For this reason, our products are chemical-free environmentally friendly fuel. Being a highly standardised and high-level density fuel, the pellets show up to three times the energy capacity per unit of mass than firewood and wood-chips. Moreover, they ensure a more profitable volume to mass ratio. It is easier to automate heating with pellets, achieving nearly the same level of comfort as it is in gas heating.

Currently, SIA “Latgran” has two biomass pellet plants: in Jaunjelgava and in the rural municipality of Kūkas in the district of Jēkabpils. The total annual production capacity is 230 thousand tons of pellets. Meanwhile, in the region of Krāslava, construction is in progress to build the third SIA “Latgran” pellet production plant, which will allow increasing our production capacity to 380 thousand tons per year.
